Accessing software for use in the session
There is a wait list for accessing CoLoop currently and therefore during the workshop Christina will demonstrate this tool only. Afterwards, if you would like to trial it, you will need to fill out the request form here https://www.coloop.ai/request-access
For MAXQDA, you can use the free trial version for the workshop. This is a 14 day trial, so do not activate it too soon. Please do the following a day or two before the workshop – to give you some time afterwards to continue experimenting.
- Download and install the MAXQDA trial from here https://www.maxqda.com/trial
- Create a MAXQDA account here https://teamcloud.maxqda.com/register/
You need a MAXQDA account to be able to use the AI Assist features that we are concentrating on in the workshop - so this step is essential - it is free to create.
Pre-session task
To be able to most clearly see whether AI tools are accurate and useful for qualitative analysis it is useful to experiment with them on materials you know well. For the purposes of the course we will work together on sample data – please read the transcript provided (the Word file “Grace (narrative discussion)” and using highlighter pens (if you print it off) or comments in the word file, please highlight segments that you would code to the concept of “Altruism” where its definition is: Altruism refers to reasons for volunteering which are about helping or serving others, rather than oneself. Bring this with you to the course so we can discuss and compare your coding with that produced by AI.
Please ensure you have accessed MAXQDA and completed the pre-session task before the session starts - we do not have time in the session to install software or troubleshoot access issues - if you have problems doing either of the above, please email Christina directly - christina@qdas.co.uk

Please note: course materials will be available for a period of 30 days after the course, after which they will be deleted. If you wish to download a copy of the documents, please do so during this time.
These documents are contained in a password protected zip file. Download the file to your computer, double-click on the downloaded file, or right-click and select 'open'. Click on 'extract all' and choose the location for the extracted files. Click 'extract' and you will be prompted to enter the password supplied in your email from the SRA. Enter password and click 'OK'.
